# Battle Item Restrictions

#### Overview

Certain equipment, cards, and consumables are restricted from use in specific map types and zones on **TheRO Classic**. These restrictions exist to maintain fair and balanced gameplay across PVP, GVG (War of Emperium), Battlegrounds, and other special zones.

#### How Restrictions Work

Items listed in this database are disabled based on a **flag bitmask** system. Each flag represents a map type or zone:

> Flags can be combined. For example, flag **6** means restricted in both **PVP** (2) and **GVG** (4).

#### Battleground Restrictions

In `item_noequip.txt`, the **Battlegrounds** block lists the same items as **GVG** with flag **4** (not flag **8**). That matches **GVG-style** maps in the bitmask system. If your battleground maps only use the dedicated battleground mapflag, confirm with your server data whether flag **8** is required for those maps.

#### Why These Restrictions?

| Category                        | Reasoning                                                                                                                                             |
| ------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **MVP Cards in PVP/GVG**        | MVP cards provide overwhelmingly powerful effects that create unfair advantages in competitive play. Disabling them levels the playing field.         |
| **Mini Boss Cards in PVP/GVG**  | Cards like Ghostring, Angeling, and Deviling provide elemental armor changes or extreme defensive bonuses that are too dominant in PVP/GVG scenarios. |
| **Rental Equipment in PVP/GVG** | Rental gear is meant to assist leveling, not to be used in competitive content.                                                                       |
| **Consumables in GVG**          | Items like Speed Up Potion, healing potions, and strong consumables are restricted to balance War of Emperium pacing and prevent consumable spam.     |
| **Teleport items in Zones**     | Fly Wings and Butterfly Wings are disabled in arenas, jail, and race tracks to prevent players from escaping or bypassing intended mechanics.         |

> **Note:** These restrictions are enforced server-side. Restricted items will simply have no effect when used or equipped on the designated map types — they do not need to be unequipped manually.
