# Sell Pricing

### Overview

In official Ragnarok Online, any item sold to an NPC returns **half** of its Buy price. On **The Ragnarok Classic**, that ratio has been changed — items sold to an NPC return only **one-eighth** of their Buy price.

| Setting                  | Formula            | Example (Buy 10,000z) |
| ------------------------ | ------------------ | --------------------- |
| **RO Default**           | Sell = Buy ÷ **2** | 5,000z                |
| **The Ragnarok Classic** | Sell = Buy ÷ **8** | 1,250z                |

> **In short:** Every item you sell to an NPC on The Ragnarok Classic is worth **75 % less** than it would be on a default server.

### Why the Change?

{% hint style="info" %}
The sell-price reduction is one of several economy-focused adjustments designed to keep Zeny valuable over the long term.
{% endhint %}

#### Zeny Inflation Control

On default servers, selling loot to NPCs is one of the largest sources of newly created Zeny. Halving the buy price means enormous amounts of currency flow into the economy with very little effort — especially when players farm large volumes of common drops.

By dividing the buy price by **8** instead of **2**, The Ragnarok Classic dramatically reduces the Zeny injected per item sold, keeping inflation in check.

#### Meaningful Player Trading

When NPC sell prices are high, players have little reason to trade items with each other — they can simply vendor everything to an NPC for a guaranteed return. A lower NPC sell price makes **player-to-player trading and vending** more attractive, because the market price of many items will naturally sit above the reduced NPC price.

#### Balanced Progression

Slower Zeny generation means players cannot rush through gear upgrades, consumables, and other Zeny-gated content. This creates a healthier pace of progression and keeps mid-game content relevant for longer.

### How It Works

The Ragnarok Classic overrides the sell value of **5,024 items** through a dedicated database import file. When the server loads item data, these adjusted prices take priority over the engine default.

**The engine default** (when no explicit Sell price is set):

#### Common Drops (Etc)

### Tips

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Overcharge** (Merchant skill) still applies a bonus to the NPC sell price, but the base it scales from is now much lower. Don't rely on NPC selling as your primary income.
{% endhint %}

* **Sell to players, not NPCs.** Many common drops are worth more on the player market than their reduced NPC price.
* **Use the Reusable NPC.** Some items can be exchanged for Empty Bottles through the Reusable NPC, which may offer better value than selling outright.
* **Farm with purpose.** Because raw Zeny from NPC sales is limited, focus on drops that have high player demand rather than pure sell-price value.
* **Buy price is unchanged.** Items purchased *from* NPCs still cost the full Buy price — only the sell-back value is reduced.
